Baluch tribe is another large tribe of Iran living along the east border of Iran from Mashhad to Sistan and Baluchestan province, speaking in the Baluch language and including many clans like Bohluli, Salarkhani, and Rahimkhani. Their carpets are unique among many diverse styles because of the prevalent limited usage of red, dark blue, and brown colors. Their prayer compositions are primarily small sizes that make a minor background.
All materials include wool and goat hair (rarely camel hair); sometimes, they weave goat hair with wool together. Most designs are trees, geometrical shapes, birds and hand shapes, and human motifs called “Paderazi” carpets with long figures of abstract standing humans and usually a horseman.
✔ Baluch rugs are primarily in small and medium sizes, with dark red or brown colors in their combination.
✔ The rug warps are white wool, and the wefts are usually brown undyed wool or cotton.
✔ Many Baluch rugs have prayer forms and are used as prayer carpets.
✔ If you see two hand shapes near each other in a rug, that is probably a Baluch rug.
